Fat Water Retentive or Gassy?
"Last week these jeans were not nearly as snug. What the heck!" Feeling like a stuffed sausage sucks.In a weeks time it is very possible that a pound or two could have been gained, especially if what was eaten has not been eliminated. In this case a mild or severe case of constipation and gas may be the cause for the current "jean" dilemma. In fact, gross as it is, the average person is running around with lots of extra fecal matter stuck in their colon. Many people are truly full of ______. The intestine is a good place to start if one is interested in loosening up the snug fitting jeans.
Intestinal Health is imperative to overall health. It only stands to reason as this organ, in adults is approximately 21 feet long. Something that big and prominent in ones abdominal region, must be important! Like the plumbing in a house, if the intestine becomes filled with debris, then at some point and time Roto Rooter may need to be employed in the case of the intestine an enema or colonic may be needed! These choices however, are extremely personal and definitely encroach on ones intimate space.
Thankfully their are alternatives for assisting the colon in the process cleansing. One of my personal favorites is flax seed. I use a coffee grinder to grind my own flax and integrate it just about daily into my diet. This is an inexpensive way to utilize flax. Massage can also be very effective, in conjunction with a warm compress, blood flow is increased and tissue spasms calmed, so blockages can be loosened enabling stuck matter to move. Probiotics are another very helpful attribute for intestinal health. In fact I believe everyone should educate themselves about the benefits of probiotics. They are a form of good bacteria necessary for a healthy colon. Good bacteria can be wiped out by antibiotics in the colon, as a result the body loses one of its greatest immune defenses. Acidophiles is a probiotic, found in yogurt, however it is only one strain of probiotics, the body needs lots more. Water, water and more water coupled with a fiber rich diet will create moisture rich waste that moves along nicely. A little water with a little fiber, makes dry waste that moves with difficulty, sometimes causing discomfort and pain. Debris that stays in the colon for extended periods of time can become very toxic and may cause other health related diseases.
"Not only are the jeans snug, but my belly hurts and I stink!" Does gas have you running to far corners of the room to avoid embarrassment? Or are you enjoying the attention you get when you fill shared space with your personal aroma? In either case most gastric experiences are not pleasant. Again probiotics may help alleviate the build up of gas. Massage can also help to release the pressure. Lying face up, rub the lower abdomen in large circular motion going clock wise. This is known as the sun-moon stroke. This will help move built up gas along to the exit door. Considering the exit door, it should be placed at the optimum angle for release, up is good, sideways o.k. down not so effective.
Is too much H2O getting you down? "It's not just my stomach that feels bloated. My face, fingers and ankles seam swollen too." Water may be the issue. There are lots of water retentive possibilities. Salty food, hormones, medicines and diet in general can cause excess water to be held in ones tissue, this is known as edema. Hormones, sodium and kidneys regulate the amount of water present inside & outside the cells.
Women may recognize a cycle of water retention due to hormonal activity relative to menstruation, pregnancy and menopause. Other causes such as lack of exercise, movement and too much junk food may contribute to snug pants, rings stuck on fingers, tight shoes, baggy eyes and the overall feeling of fatness. In some cases water retention is a symptom of an underlying cause that may need medical attention.
Women may find solace in herbs. Because I have not used specific herbs as a remedy I will leave the research to each individual. Exercise is an excellent way to alleviate water retention coupled with eating clean and avoiding food high in sodium, edema relieving benefits can be experienced relatively soon. Extremities - feet, legs, hands and arms may be elevated above the heart to increase the benefits of gravity. Last but not least, massage is a very effective modality utilized to drain fluid held in retentive tissue.
Fat will definitely snug up a pair of jeans! The first thing that comes to mind is, "You are what you eat." The second thing that comes to mind is, "Decide and take Action." If you want to lose fat, quit eating things that cause it and burn more calories then you eat. For most people being fat is the result of self choice. Like anything else to change from fat to slim the best way to go about it is first by understanding the problem and secondly taking action to create desired change. Education is key to healthy choice, it is also empowering as it builds confidence in decision making and later in sharing wisdom. Learn how the body uses food; which foods contribute to optimum health and how to exercise correctly. Be accountable. Create goals and design schedules which support your intention. Seek support, family and friends are a good start, however personal trainers, and other health care consultants can greatly benefit your process of change. Invest time and money into yourself. You deserve it and you are worth it!
